June 1 I started a three month sabbatical from my ministry at SC Baptist where I lead mission partnerships. I have served there for almost 21 years and felt it was time for a sabbatical. I am taking time to rest, read, spend time with my family and travel. I am also interviewing retirees who serve on mission for two weeks or more. This blog has more details about that project along with stories from Encore Mission volunteers.
One part of my sabbatical is a month of volunteer service with the IMB in Bangkok, Thailand. The team is planning to open a new ministry center and invited my wife and I to serve with them. Since this is going to be a long mission trip, we are enlisting prayer partners. A 30 day prayer guide for Bangkok can guide you in how to pray specifically for the city. We will post videos and stories in a newsletter that will go out each week, Lord willing.
Why Bangkok? I’ve traveled there to Thailand three times and found it to be a place of great spiritual need with great mission leaders on the ground. Both of those elements are important when choosing a place to serve. Knowing this sabbatical was coming, we prayed about where God would send us and talked to several leaders about options. Our friendships with the team in Bangkok and my experience last summer with the IMB Serve Tour, helped confirm our decision to go there.
Will you pray for us and pray for the people in Bangkok? Download the digital prayer guide. A limited number of printed prayer guides are available from the SC Baptist Convention Send Team by completing the form at the bottom of this page. Thanks for praying and I hope you will consider giving God the encore of your life for His Great Commission.
